2021 Scholarship Applications are now open.

The Principal of Strathcona Mrs Marise McConaghy invites applications for scholarships from current and prospective students for Years’ of entry 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 in 2021. Strathcona is a vibrant, warm and connected community and families of scholarship applicants are expected to understand and uphold the values of the School.

2021 scholarships will be offered for the following year levels:

  • Year 3 in 2019 may apply for Year 5, 2021 Scholarships
  • Year 4 in 2019 may apply for Year 6, 2021 Scholarships
  • Year 5 in 2019 may apply for Year 7, 2021 Scholarships
  • Year 7 in 2019 may apply for Year 9, 2021 Scholarships
  • Year 8 in 2019 may apply for Year 10, 2021 Scholarships

Before making an application for a scholarship please take the time to read all the information below outlining the types of scholarships on offer, the process of applying for a scholarship and the terms and conditions for successful candidates.

Testing Day will occur on Saturday 19 October 2019.

Academic Scholarships may be offered to selected girls on the basis of their academic results after an examination (with independent provider Edu Test), NAPLAN results, latest two school reports and an interview with the Principal.

Academic Scholarships carry partial remission of tuition fees and are conditional upon consistent academic progress, full participation in the co-curricular life of Strathcona and the active modelling of Strathcona values.

To apply for an Academic Scholarship, candidates must provide a copy of the following documents:

  • The completed Application for Academic Scholarship form
  • The student’s Birth Certificate – where the student has been born overseas, please also provide a copy of the student’s Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate or Permanent Resident Visa
  • The student’s most recent School Report
  • The student’s most recent NAPLAN Test results

An Instrumental Music Scholarship may be offered to candidates with the potential to make an outstanding contribution to the musical life at Strathcona. Low brass, low woodwind and string instrumentals are particularly encouraged to audition.

All Music scholarship candidates must sit the Edu Test examination  (Saturday 19 October 2019) prior to auditions and complete the online Strathcona Music Application.  Submit their latest two School Reports, Naplan results and any other supporting documentation. Scholarships will be awarded to girls based on their performance auditions, academic results and an interview with the Principal.
Submit hard copies of the latest two School Reports, Naplan results and any other supporting documentation to Registrar clearly marked with Year level and name.
  •  The student’s Birth Certificate – where the student has been born overseas, please also provide a copy of the student’s Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate or Permanent Resident Visa
  • The student’s most recent School Report
  • The student’s most recent NAPLAN Test results
  • Documents supporting the student’s level of achievement pertaining to their instrument(s) of choice

The Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship was established by a former student of Strathcona, the late Mrs Beth Smallwood (nee MacLaren). The recipient will be a girl with significant hearing impairment who would benefit from an education at Strathcona. The recipient of the Scholarship will be determined by interview and, dependent on financial circumstances, will be valued at up to 80% of the tuition fees in any one year. The Scholarship shall be available to each scholar for the period of her enrolment, subject to satisfactory conduct and progress.

Applications for the Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship open on February 1 and close on May 1, in the year preceding entry. Notification of scholarship will be given in June of the year preceding entry.

To apply for the Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship, candidates must complete and return the Application for Beth MacLaren Smallwood Scholarship form below, along with a copy of the following documents:

  • The student’s Birth Certificate – where the student has been born overseas, please also provide a copy of the the student’s Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship Certificate or Permanent Resident Visa
  • The student’s most recent School Report
  • The student’s most recent NAPLAN Test results
  • Documents / covering letter addressing the criteria (see below).

Terms & Conditions of Scholarships

Scholarship holders are to comply with the School’s expectations of conduct, performance and participation in some of the co-curricular activities offered. Scholarship holders are expected to complete their secondary education at Strathcona. It follows that if a Scholarship holder is withdrawn from the School for reasons other than family re-location or hardship, the full amount of fee remissions allowed may be deemed payable, at the sole discretion of the School.

The Old Strathconian Association Scholarship is intended to assist the daughter, granddaughter or other family member of an Old Strathconian with the completion of Years 11 and 12 at Strathcona. Full details and an application form can be found on the OSA page.

Terms & Conditions of Scholarships

Important Must Read Information

All applicants must register online for the respective scholarship.

In addition to registration, all applicants must forward the following documents in Hard Copy to the Registrar, Ms Emma Amory. Only Hard copies will be accepted, please clearly identify the applicant and year level applying for – email submissions will not be accepted.

  •      Most recent last two school reports
  •      Most recent NAPLAN results
  •      A clear and recent photograph of the applicant
  •      Any relevant supporting documentation
  •      Birth Certificate or Passport
  •      (All applicants must be an Australian citizen with permanent residency)

Late applications will not be accepted. Applications submitted via email will not be accepted.

Please note that an invitation to attend a scholarship interview or participate in an audition does not necessarily mean that the candidate will be offered a scholarship.

All testing is conducted by an independent examiner EduTest, results from the independent examination will not be released to parents.

All scholarships are awarded to Year 12 subject to an annual review of academic growth, demonstration of appropriate commitment and participation to school life and living within Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar’s values and culture.

All scholarships are awarded on the basis that the scholarship recipient will complete their education at Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar. If a student is withdrawn from the school early all scholarship funds awarded must be repaid in full. The Principal may reconsider this requirement if the student withdrawal is the result of circumstances beyond the family’s control.

Scholarships are available to current Strathcona and new students entering Strathcona in 2020.

All applicants (with exception of Beth McLaren Smallwood hearing impaired scholarship) must sit the annual scholarship exam.

Students already on a Strathcona scholarship are not eligible to reapply.

Overseas students on full fee paying student visas are not eligible to apply for these scholarships.

All scholarships awarded sign and agree to the terms and conditions of the Schools Business Notice.
