Friends of Snowsports

Strathcona offers Snowsports as a winter sport and we welcome all girls (Prep-Year 12) to join the Snowsports Team. Participation is available at all ability levels and we encourage those who are capable snowboarders, downhill or cross-country skiers to join the team. Girls do not need to be experienced skiers or snowboarders as racing events include beginner to expert levels.

Participating in Snowsports allows students to embrace the Strathcona team spirit as they develop their fitness and skills, gain confidence and have fun while representing their school.

One of the benefits of being in the Snowsports team is the opportunity to interact with other like-minded families from Strathcona through social events hosted by the Friends of Snowsports. Numerous activities take place in the lead-up to the ski season and also occur on Mt Buller during snowsports events.

The focus of Friends of Snowsports is to develop a ski team for Strathcona each year, with the objective of bringing these girls together for fitness training, team social events, race training and a presentation night to celebrate their achievements.

Victorian Interschools Competition

Each year, Strathcona ski team members have the opportunity of competing in the Victorian Interschools. These events are held at Mt Buller during August and offer a range of styles from cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or snow-boarding, moguls and speciality courses. Girls and boys compete separately and divisions are grouped by year levels, as follows:

  • Division 1 – Years 11 and 12
  • Division 2 – Years 9 and 10
  • Division 3 – Years 7 and 8
  • Division 4 – Years 5 and 6
  • Division 5 – Years Prep, 1, 2, 3 and 4
