Congratulations to past student (1990) Catherine Beaufort, who was recognised in the Australia Day Honours List for 2017 for her dedication in caring for patients and significant contribution to the medical sector.
Ms Beaufort is the Manager of Alfred Health’s Radiation Oncology Centre in Gippsland, and was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to radiotherapy and international relations.
“I am honoured and humbled to receive this award and appreciate the people who have supported me. It is overwhelming,” Ms Beaufort said.
Ms Beaufort has worked for Alfred Health as a radiation therapist for more than 20 years and has developed a national training course for brachytherapy in Australia.
She was instrumental in making this training international through conducting training at the National Cancer Institute in Kuala Lumpur and mentoring radiation therapists at the ANGAU Hospital in Lae, Papua New Guinea. Ms Beaufort helped establish a Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy program at the University of Technology PNG.
