Strathcona girls enjoy a wide variety of outdoor and indoor pursuits to keep their minds and bodies active and fit. From organised team and individual sports to challenging outdoor activities, the choice is rich and diverse.
Sports and Camps at Strathcona
Our girls are encouraged to balance their academic efforts with strong sporting and outdoor pursuits. The unique character and location of the campuses allow us to offer true diversity in this regard. Strathcona students enjoy a wide range of intra and inter-school sports, including aerobics, athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cycling, diving, swimming, hockey, netball, rhythmic gymnastics, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo, weight lifting and kayaking and canoeing on the Yarra which flows past our Tay Creggan Year 9 campus in Hawthorn. Compass (Year 7 and 8) and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards (Years 9 to 12) provide students with a range of challenging, non-competitive, voluntary activities encouraging personal growth, enterprise and a broad range of life skills. These programs are made possible through a combination of these extensive school facilities across three campuses and external sporting venues.
Regular camps throughout the year at different Year levels also complement the academic program providing diversity in student learning. Typical camp activities include horse riding, canoeing, abseilling, raft building, archery, initiative activities, team rescue and decathlon. Junior camps include overnight stays and adventure trips to the beach or bush, as well as visits to Sovereign Hill and Canberra. Our senior girls have the opportunity to kayak on the Murray River, spend time in the snow, and experience the beauty of Australia’s centre on trips to Kakadu and Alice Springs. Through participation in an exciting student exchange and tours program, Strathcona students experience life in a number of countries around the world.
At Strathcona the emphasis is on co-operation, challenge, team spirit and simply having fun together.
