The Strathcona Information Resource Centre (SIRC) is a state of the art facility, designed to meet the changing needs of our Year 11 and 12 students. Committed to developing the skills of lifelong learning and informed decision-making, the SIRC supports the philosophy and objectives of our broader school community.
The Strathcona Information Resource Centre (SIRC)
Comprising three libraries—the Senior School Library and the Mellor House and Tay Creggan Libraries—our Information Resource Centre is central to the teaching and learning of the whole school community. All Libraries have excellent collections of both print and non print resources. Of particular note is the wide range of online services and databases which can be accessed from all school computers and from home via “Homelink”.
Dedicated to developing students’ research and information skills, the Library programs are carefully integrated with classroom based units of work to ensure that by the end of Year 10, the girls are well equipped to manage the demands of the VCE as independent learners.
With opportunities to act as Library monitors, to join the Bronte Literature Club, to work on the computers, to participate in many stimulating activities during its highlight week of the year—Book Week—or simply to enjoy a quiet moment with a good book in the recreational reading areas, our Information Resource Centre is valued by all. It provides the students with state of the art facilities, welcoming places to meet and work, promotes a love of learning and reading and plays a vital role in assisting our girls achieve their best.
